EU citizens and their family members
EU citizens and their family members
An EU citizen may reside in Slovenia without registration for 90 days. If they wish to stay longer, they must register their residence at any administrative unit before this period expires (Article 119 of ZTuj-2). A residence registration certificate is issued in particular if the EU citizen is employed, works, is self-employed or studies in Slovenia, or is a family member of an EU citizen or a Slovenian citizen; in other cases, they must prove sufficient means and health insurance.
A family member of an EU citizen or a Slovenian citizen who is not an EU citizen themselves (e.g. a spouse, partner, descendants under 21, dependent relatives) may obtain a residence permit for a family member, which is issued for five years (Articles 127 and 128 of ZTuj-2). The conditions of sufficient means and health insurance are not required if the EU citizen is employed or self-employed in Slovenia, or if the Slovenian citizen is employed or self-employed.
How we help you
We check whether you meet the conditions, prepare the application and a list of the required documents and, on the basis of a power of attorney, represent you in the administrative procedure. If your application is refused, we help you prepare legal remedies.
You can find the general conditions, the extension of permits and an overview of all types of permit on the page Residence permits in the Republic of Slovenia.
Each case depends on its specific circumstances, so the outcome of the procedure cannot be guaranteed in advance. Tell us about your case and we will arrange a date for a consultation: write to us or call us on +386 40 832 660.
